BASAL TEMPERATURE METHOD

The temperature method of contraception is the method based on definition fertile of a phase on the basis of measurement basal (rectal) temperature. This method of contraception allows to define time ovulation more precisely, than any other method. But it is necessary to tell that any virus or respiratory disease does results doubtful. Same concerns and heavy physical activities, to active playing sports, stress etc.

To measure basal temperature it is necessary to begin in the first day of a cycle, having woken up in the morning, without getting up to place a thermometer in back pass on 1-2 sm, to hold 5-6 minutes. Measurements to bring in the schedule basal temperatures. It is necessary to use all time the same thermometer, and to take temperature at the same time (plus a minus 1 hour) every day.

In days menstruation and up to ovulation (the first phase of a cycle) basal temperature not high (36,4-36,8 degrees). Before ovulation (for 12-24 hours) it sharply falls, and then raises on 0,2-0,6 degrees (to 37,1-37,5) and keeps throughout the second phase of a cycle. On the eve of next menstruation the temperature again decreases.

There are cases when basal temperature does not raise, it means that ovulation was not. If it occurs during three-four cycles, it is necessary to address to the doctor since it testifies to the broken functions of an organism.

The beginning fertile phases define by subtraction of 6 days from day preovulatory recession basal temperatures, and the end – addition of 3 days to it. After that there comes the safe period.

It is possible to carry to advantages of a temperature method of contraception: simplicity in use; absence of by-effects; most precisely defines days of probable conception at pregnancy planning.

To lacks: high risk of undesirable pregnancy (as on basal temperature many factors influence); necessity of daily measurement basal temperatures; the fear before possible conception remains - the long period of abstention.
